What is LAUGHTER Yoga Therapy?

Laughter Yoga and Laughter Therapy are fun-filled, fully interactive programs suitable for all ages and abilities. Combining the perfect blend of playful tension-releasing exercises, gentle breathing, stretching and relaxation, Laughter Yoga and Laughter Therapy will leave your group energized, motivated, inspired and wanting more.

* Scientifically Proven *

Clinical research on Laughter Yoga methods, conducted at the various University of many countries has proved that Laughter lowers the level of stress hormones (epinephrine, cortisol, etc) in the blood. It fosters a positive and hopeful attitude. It is less likely for a person to succumb to stress and feelings of depression and helplessness, if one is able to laugh away the troubles.

* Laughter Yoga in Schools *

In India, New York, US, Laughter Yoga has been introduced in many schools. The school schedule includes ten minutes of Laughter in the classrooms both at the beginning and at the end of the day. This routine has shown that the mood and atmosphere gets energized. Teachers and students are happier together, with a more positive outlook, and improves communication, discipline and attendance. Academic results have also shown improvement.

* Laughter Yoga and Business World *

Scientific research reveals that Laughter can help resolve many major issues at the workplace, yet, till now there has been no reliable and effective system to deliver laughter. Laughter Yoga is a breakthrough laughter delivery system that can enable a person to laugh continuously for 15 to 20 minutes with short breaks of Yogic Breathing. It is a powerful force for improving staff performance at the workplace. This was recently confirmed by studies in India and the USA, that showed a substantial stress reduction and enhanced productivity by the staff after just three weeks of Laughter Sessions.

* Seniors and Laughter Yoga *

Laughter Yoga is being practiced by Seniors in many aged care facilities in Canada, USA, Israel and Europe. There is a distinct rise in life expectancy with improvement in health care, and advancement in medical technology. Since the cognitive abilities in seniors are compromised due to senile dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, they find it difficult to comprehend humor. Therefore, Laughter Yoga is the ideal form of exercise routine that can help them to get complete health benefits of Laughter.

* Laughter Yoga and Cancer Patients *

A significant number of Laughter Club members around the world suffer some kind of cancer, and laughter has brought a new hope in their lives. Many have reported that regular Laughter Sessions have benefited them tremendously. Scientific research has proved that laughter has a profound impact on the immune system that influences the course of survival of cancer patients. Laughter Yoga has been effectively implemented in many Cancer Hospitals, helping the patients and their caregivers, cope with pain and trauma.

* Laughter Yoga in Prisons *

Laughter Yoga is being practised in several prisons in India, Europe and USA. A documentary for BBC on Human Expressions found that laughter had a profound impact on the prisoners, and the atmosphere in general lightened. With the rise in crime all over the world, the prisons are overburdened with prisoners, harboring negative emotions and thoughts. Laughter Yoga is a great method of dissipating negative feelings of anger and frustration. Many prisoners in India have found Laughter Yoga an effective tool to release their negative emotions. There have been positive changes in prisoner attitude, better prisoner-staff relations and reduced violence.

* Laughter Yoga with Physically and Mentally Challenged *

Laughter Yoga has made a major difference in the lives of many people with physical and mental disabilities in India, Canada, USA and Portugal. In fact, the introduction of Laughter Yoga for the mentally and the physically challenged children has revealed a marked improvement in their motor and expressive skills besides control of hyperactiveness. Many such people who come to these sessions in wheel chairs have shown tremendous improvement in their physical condition and mental health. Laughter Yoga has also been introduced in many schools for the Blind, and among the deaf and mute children, to help them cope with their disabilities and generate a more positive attitude, that will help them to enhance their wellbeing.

know more about THERAPY ^^

Play Therapy

= Therapeutic play, (including play therapy) , is a well established discipline based upon a number of psychological theories. Research, both qualitative and quantitative shows that it is highly effective in many cases. Recent research by PTUK suggests that 75% of the children referred will show a positive change.
= A safe, confidential and caring environment is created which allows the child to play with
as few limits as possible but as many as necessary (for safety). This allows healing to occur on many levels following our natural inner trend towards health. Play and creativity operate on impulses from outside our awareness - the unconscious.

Satir Family Enrichment Therapy and Family Reunions

= In Family Enrichment Therapy, several family members take part. Both parents are involved, together with one of the children whose problems brought the family to treatment in the first place. At times they are joined by the other children in the family, or even grandparents.

= The aim of Family Enrichment Therapy is to alleviate the problems that led to the disorder in the identified member, rather than to achieve some ideal state of a perfect family. Its principal use is in the treatment of childhood and adolescent difficulties which affect the other members of the family. Family Reunions are devised to allow members of a family or other social group who have been in conflict, to reunite with each other with peace and love.

= We also offer Family of Origin exploration through photographic analysis and action methods, and family reunions, in two or more intensive sessions lasting several hours each, to renew strained connections.

Sand Play Therapy

= Sandplay therapy uses the symbolism of three-dimensional figures in a hands-on, non-verbal process. The sand itself, water and the therapist’s collection of miniatures provide natural and cultural symbols. Adult and child clients working with sandplay therapists may or may not create a sand scene in every session, but sometimes work with talking therapy, play objects, art, or other techniques.

= But the trays of wet and dry sand and the powerfully symbolic miniatures remain available, stimulating whatever form of therapy occurs. Clients may complete a few, or as many as 50, sandplay scenes to fulfill their process of allowing the unconscious to communicate its meaning. The process can help heal psychic wounds that have divided the individual from the deep source of their being by allowing the psyche to express itself through their heart and hands.

= Sandplay therapists do not interpret sandplay images during the sandplay therapy session but observe them with the adult or child client and listen and respond to their comments. Throughout the work, the therapist facilitates the process by holding the sacred space, or temenos. This is the “free and protected place” that Dora Kalff said was critical for the client to connect with and express the deep psyche. Each sandplay scene is left intact until the client leaves, at which time the therapist photographs the tray and makes sketches and notes.

= Clients as well as the therapist tend to know when a process is complete, but, in order to allow the work to integrate fully in the psyche without critical analysis, photographs are not released nor is the process interpreted with the client until several years later.

know more about THERAPY ^^

Hypnotherapy

= Hypnotherapy, or 'neuro-hypnotism' meaning sleep of the nervous system, uses hypnosis to induce a deep state of heightened relaxation and altered awareness, during which the unconscious mind is highly receptive to new or alternative perspectives and ideas.

= In the field of hypnotherapy the unconscious mind is looked upon as a resource for wellness and creativity. Accessing this part of the mind through hypnosis opens up possibilities for the maintenance of the body towards health via the autonomic processes.

= Hypnotherapy can be applied to modify a client's behaviour, attitudes and emotions, as well as manage pain, anxiety, stress-related illnesses and dysfunctional habits, promoting personal development.

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP)

= Neuro-linguistic programming, or NLP, is a means of interpersonal communication offering an alternative model to psychotherapy. Co-created by Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder in the 1970s, it is often referred to as 'the psychology of excellence'.

= In NLP the world is perceived in terms of excellence where individuals can be supported in creating their own choice and flexibility. The theories of NLP have been based on the subjective study of language, communication and personal change, drawing upon the work of Gestalt, family systems therapy and clinical hypnosis.

= NLP incorporates a set of techniques and strategies to enhance communication and personal experience. The core of NLP is the process of replicating excellence, understanding how individuals organise their thinking, feeling, language and behaviour to produce results. The theory is broken down into three layers:

  • Neuro: the establishment of our individual mental map of the world
  • Linguistic: how we each assign personal meaning to the information
  • Programming: Our behavioural response to the latter.

= NLP techniques are often utilised to instigate change and enhance personal growth, development and performance in groups and organisations, and with individuals. NLP techniques are not always suitable in addressing complex psychological difficulties or distress.

know more about THERAPY ^^

Dance movement therapy

= is an expressive form of psychotherapy, founded on the belief that the body and mind are an interrelated continuum. Through the vehicle of movement and dance, the client can creatively explore emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration.

= Dance therapists operate from the principle that movement reflects an individual's process of thinking and feeling. By acknowledging and supporting the client's movements, the therapist encourages the development of new emotional experiences through adaptive movement patterns, supporting the solution of psychological issues.

= DMT can be practised individually with the therapist, or within groups. The client does not have to be a trained dancer to benefit from DMT, as movement is an essential part of who we are.

Drama therapy

= Drama therapy is the intentional use of theatrical techniques, such as role-play, theatre games, mime, puppetry, voice work, myth, ritual, storytelling and other improvisational techniques to facilitate creativity, imagination, learning, insight and personal growth. Its extremely varied approach provides an expressive therapy modality that can be used in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, mental health centres, prisons and businesses.

= Drama therapy supports opportunities for individuals or groups to explore personal and/or social problems in a creative environment, and to safely reflect upon existing beliefs, attitudes, and feelings, exploring alternative ways of acting in the world. The drama therapist encourages self-awareness, reflection upon, and expression of, feelings in relationship to the self and to others.

Music Therapy

Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.

Music therapy interventions can be designed to:

  • promote wellness
  • manage stress
  • alleviate pain
  • express feelings
  • enhance memory
  • improve communication
  • promote physical rehabilitation.

Research in music therapy supports its effectiveness in a wide variety of healthcare and educational settings.
